Home and Away spoilers follow for UK viewers.
Home and Away‘s Mackenzie Booth receives heartbreaking news next week in scenes that are set to air in the UK.
Mac (Emily Weir) experiences terrible pain and ends up collapsing at home. She is found the next day by her brother Dean Thompson, and when she’s taken to hospital Mac is informed that she is experiencing an ectopic pregnancy and she loses her baby.
Ari Parata was the father of the baby, and Mac and Ari’s relationship recently ended due to Ari’s ex-partner Mia coming back into his life. While they were together, Mac always had chemistry with Ari’s younger brother Tane, though it was never explored and Tane is now settled down with Ziggy.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Emily explained Mac’s love life in more detail and hinted that there is still a spark between Mac and Tane.
Emily said: “I felt really sad for Mack. It would have been an interesting take, had she not been pregnant, to see what would have happened.
“I do think essentially that Mack didn’t think she would fall in love with someone like Ari. It was a beautiful, unexpected relationship that grew out of being adult friends with benefits and then grew into something more; which is sometimes in life how these things happen.
“It was sad to see that happen, but I think Mackenzie wants to be with someone that wants to be with no one else but her, and when Mia came into the picture she didn’t want to be with someone who didn’t choose her as number 1.
“If it weren’t for the pregnancy and Ari’s coma and all the trauma, I think she would have gotten over that relationship quicker because she could see that Ari still had real feelings for Mia and no one wants to be second best.”
Explaining whether or not there’s a future for Mac and Ari, Emily said that it will be important for the pair to reconnect in some way but she doesn’t think they’re each other’s soulmates.
Emily also discussed Tane’s involvement in the ectopic pregnancy storyline, mentioning that the pair always help each other when they need to. She also teased that there is still a romantic connection between the two.
“I think there is still a spark there, I do. It’s not written but there seems to be this reoccurring thing between Mackenzie and Tane where either of them are going through a bit of trauma they seem to somehow find each other for the briefest of moments and then it fleets away again,” she explained.
“It is interesting. There is something undiscovered between them, but whether or not it gets fully introduced I don’t know.”
Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK), with first look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR.
